Several million tons of agri-waste including stubbles, waste after primary processing  , cattle dung , biogas plant slurry is available as a potential bioresource which after converting it composts or vermicomposts and more recently into solid pellets from biogas slurry can potentially used for sustainable intensification of agriculture.

This is an ecologically sound approach as the slurry cannot be used directly into crop yields as raw material difficult to carry and use.  Moreover environmental nuisance created by slurry is the biggest impediments towards its use.

Experts at University of Osnabrueck in collaboration with German industry have converted slurry into solid rod shaped pellets which

are easy to transport and use being easy to handle. There is no foul smell. The pellets are rich in Nitrogen, phosphorus, potash, calcium and other micronutrient. Being in solid phase the nutrient release from pellets is gradual, slow and long lasting to meet the nutrient needs of the growing plants continuously.

Such a technology will be of immense value in developing and developed countries for effective bioresource management and to enhance food production and thus food security.

This will lead to sustainable intensification of agriculture in the sense that input costs can be reduced, soil health can be maintained and crop production can be enhanced.

The workshop will be jointly organized by IFSDAA, Goettingen, and University of Applied Sciences (UAS), Osnabrueck, to provide participants background information , relevant knowledge and hands on practice  and visits to German research institutes and agriculture farms for sustainable management of bioresources for their effective use to achieve sustainable intensification of agriculture.
